Waikiki Community Center is a private, nonprofit organization dedicated to providing multigenerational programs and social services to the people who live, work, and visit Waikiki. 

Our Early Education Center provides families with quality education and care in a safe and nurturing environment by promoting individual growth and development. meeting the needs of today’s working parents, especially those who live or work in Waikiki’s 24/7 travel industry.  We promote individual growth and development and provide a variety of developmentally appropriate skills that nurture social, emotional, physical and cognitive growth.  

Waikiki Community Center Early Education Center is a licensed child care center in the State of of Hawaii located at 310 Paoakalani Avenue in the heart of Waikiki. We are seeking dedicated professionals to join us in our important work.

We are currently seeking to fill these positions:

Lead Teacher – Waikiki Community Center – Honolulu, Hawai`i

 

The Waikiki Community Center seeks to fill the vacant positions of Lead Teacher at its Early Education Program.  The Lead Teacher position is responsible for the following and s/he will report to the Early Education Director.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES: Plan and implement appropriate preschool curriculum and activities for the children in his/her classroom according to NAEYC accreditation standards. Conduct observations and assessments of each child’s progress in the developmental goals to measure curriculum effectiveness and track progress. Prepare written evaluation reports for parents and Early Education Center Director on a regular basis. Implement effective classroom management techniques to promote maximum learning. Supervise all children during indoor and outdoor activities. Supervise and evaluate classroom staff and volunteers.  Create a stable work environment where classroom staff and volunteers are treated with respect and honesty and teamwork is fostered. Organize and maintain a clean, neat, safe and productive learning environment. Conduct parent teacher conferences twice a year. Maintain accurate and current records, as required by the Early Education Center’s Director, of child and family information, attendance, etc.  Submit records on a timely basis. Able to deal with daily care of physical bodily functions of children such as diapering, toileting, clothes changing etc. Able to lift up to 40 lbs. Promote and implement WCC’s philosophy. Maintain clear, meaningful and positive relationships with children, parents and co-workers. Participate in all EEC program activities and events. Maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with WCC Early Education Center program staff, administrative staff and volunteers. Perform work responsibilities in accordance with State of Hawaii Group Childcare Licensing requirements and NAEYC accreditation standards and Code of Ethics. Participate in required training to increase professional skills. Perform other duties as assigned.

 

REQUIREMENTS: AA in Early Childhood Education from an accredited college or university.  Must provide current PATCH registry card.  Minimum 1 year Lead Teaching experience in an early childhood program. All applicants must pass an extensive background/fingerprinting check.  Must be able to work with children 2 – 5 years of age and able to lift up to 40 lbs.

 

DESIRED EXPERIENCE/SKILLS/ABILITIES: 2 year lead teaching experience in an early childhood program. Ability to work as part of a team, demonstrate time management, problem solving and decision making skills as well as demonstrate effective verbal, written and listening communication skills. Ability to follow direction, takes initiative, and possess cultural awareness and sensitivity and be able to work with a variety of age groups in a multicultural environment. Ability to be flexible, reliable and able to adapt to changing environments, and has good stress management skills.

Teacher Aide – Waikiki Community Center – Honolulu, Hawai`i

 

The Waikiki Community Center seeks to fill the vacant positions of Teacher Aide at its Early Education Program.

 

The Teacher Aide position is responsible for providing assistance to the Lead Teachers in various classrooms and s/he will report to the Early Education Director.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Assist Lead Teachers in the planning, and implementing of classroom curriculum materials. Assist Lead Teachers with observations for children’s progress in developmental goals. Supervise all children during indoor and outdoor activities. Assist in implementation of effective and appropriate classroom management techniques to promote maximum learning. Assist with communication to parents regarding the daily achievements of each child, should Lead Teachers not be available to do so. Assist in the cleanliness, sanitization and organization of classroom equipment, toys and facilities on a regular basis to maintain a clean, neat, safe and productive learning environment. Assist in all meal service, eating with children and clean up after meals. Promote and implement WCC’s philosophy. Alert Lead Teachers when supplies need replenishment or when toys or equipment are in need of repair. Participate in the implementation of WCC curriculum, activities and events of the EEC program. Provide supervision to children in different classrooms during teacher breaks and/or absence. Assist in daily care of physical bodily functions of children such as diapering, toileting, clothes changing etc. Able to lift up to 40 lbs. Report to Lead Teachers any concerns, suggestions or problems regarding health and safety issues, and children’s behavior. Maintain and promote a positive meaningful relationship with children and parents. Maintain effective cooperative working relationships with WCC co-workers, EEC program staff, and WCC administrative staff, and volunteers. Perform work responsibilities in accordance with State of Hawaii Group Child Care licensing requirements as well as NAEYC Code of Ethics and accreditation standards. Participate in required training to increase professional skills. Perform other duties as required or assigned by Lead Teachers, EEC Director and/or the Executive Director.
