HAPPY HOLIDAYS EVERYONE!

WCC Board of Directors and Staff

WCC END OF YEAR GIVING

Thank you for your generosity!

The end-of-the year season is a time when we turn our thoughts to giving and supporting the causes we believe in.  Financial decisions are an important part of the year-end picture for many people.  Waikiki Community Center is thankful for the many donors who play a key role in supporting our efforts to provide quality programs for seniors and families, create positive learning experiences for young children and continue to provide WCC with resources required to remain open.

Some important reminders for December donors:

  • Only gifts postmarked or delivered to WCC by December 31, qualify for a 2007 tax deduction.
  • If you transfer appreciated assets (stocks, land, etc.) by December 31, you can deduct the fair market value for tax purposes and avoid paying the capital gains tax on those assets.
  • If this is a time of year when you review your estate and financial plans, please consider including Waikiki Community Center as a future beneficiary.  Call Denice Keliikoa at (808) 923 1802 for more information.
  • One important item for those who own an IRA and who will have attained at least 70 1/2 years of age before the end of 2007.  There is a new law that may allow you to make tax-free rollovers directly from your IRA to WCC and other charities.
  • Example:  Jane will be required to withdraw approximately $25,000 from her IRA this year and wants to contribute $10,000 to a charity.  If she authorizes the trustee of the IRA to transfer $10K to the charity and $15K to herself, the $10K distributed to charity will not be subject to tax.

Key points about these non-taxable charitable distributions from an IRA:

  • You must be at least 70 1/2 years of age on the date the gift is made.
  • Up to $100K maximum can be given per individual, per y ear.
  • Qualifying gifts can only be made during 2006 and 2007.
  • Gifts must be made directly from an IRA to a qualified public charity, and cannot be made to a supporting organization or a donor advised fund.
  • The gifts must be outright and are tax-deductible.

WCC does not provide legal counsel, but we are pleased to team up with you and your planning advisors.  Please consult your professional advisor.   (Return to top of page)

The story should contain all of the following elements and be no more than one paragraph in length.

Who:  List first/last names of everyone in the photo.

What: Name of event, activitiy, class, etc.
