Happy Holidays Everyone!  Wishing you and your family a joyous holiday season!

Gail Kapuakehaulani Lin Mui Chow Miraflorgail miraflor nov081.png

September 21, 1945 - October 25, 2010

Gail was and remains with us in spirit, a joyful light.

Gail Miraflor, our office clerk, passed away on October 25, at the age of 65.  She is survived by her husband, Milchor "Milch or Moose": sons, Matthew and Mark Chun  (Emily) Miraflor, daughter, Tammy Tampos;  Lin Chun and 3 grandchildren.

Visitation was held on Wednesday, November 3rd at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints Kahala Ward with burial at Mililani Memorial Park Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the American Cancer Society, the Susan G. Komen Foundation or LDS Kahala Ward.

All of us at the Waikiki Community Center are grateful for what Gail offered each and every one of us - our volunteers, our guests, our staff and board - in service.  Gail greeted each visitor to the Center with a cheery welcome.  She would nary complain about the 100th $2 transaction she was in the midst of while answering a call to the Center; she was known to inquire about a member's grandchild or something about his/her life.  One could easily call this great customer service, about which she taught us a lot.

But, really, Gail's hospitality, joy and deference was her gift. And we're all the better for knowing and learning from her. We will miss her terribly.  We offer our condolences to Gail's family and our gratitude for her life and how she enriched each of our lives.

The Staff, Volunteers and Board of the Waikiki Community Center

THEIR NEEDS ARE SIMPLE

CARING AND SUPPORTING OTHERS IN NEED

During this holiday season please remember those who are less fortunate and are in need.  At the community center we meet and support many people from all walks of life.  Their needs are simple.   A warm meal and friendship to share during the holidays, a bag of groceries to provide food until the next check comes in, tuition assistance to prepare their child for kindergarten and a network of services and case management to help out during difficult times. Shortly, you will be receiving a letter from us asking your support for WCC’s programs and services.  Contributions also support our Malama Seniors in Waikiki program with case management and referral services so senior adults can continue to live independently.  Our beneficiaries and staff appreciate your caring support, especially during these challenging times.

This is an extremely difficult time for many being served by Waikiki Community Center. As the need increases our requests for food, services and support also increases.  Our expenses and daily costs continue to rise for programs and services.  We make lives better for families, kupunas (senior adults), and children.  But, we can’t do it alone.

Please take the time to write your most generous check today and help launch a successful campaign.  You’ll find a donation envelope for your convenience.  Or call us at (808) 923-1802 with your credit card number to make a quick and secure donation over the phone.  Your contribution is greatly needed as we try to end the year on a positive note and begin planning for a successful 2011!

Also, please consider joining our monthly giving program—Makana Fund to truly help where it’s needed most.  You can add, stop or change at any time with a quick phone call, starting at $10 a month.   Your gift truly makes a difference in the lives of those we serve!  Call Denice at 923-1802.

Mahalo for your support.  Please return the enclosed envelope today.

We hope to hear from you with a favorable response.

Happy Holidays Everyone!
