SPOTLIGHT ON WCC
VOLUNTEERS
Members
of the Senior Advisory Council
Spotlight on WCC Volunteers!
Members of the Senior Advisory
Council
The Senior Advisory
Council is composed of 5 members. Each serves as a link
between WCC’s Senior Members and Staff. In this capacity, each is
actively involved in the development and implementation of the
Senior Programs and activities as well as promotion of other WCC
events and fundraisers. This month we will introduce
two of these members.
Helene
Webster:
Has been a member of WCC since 1999 & served as a member of the
SAC since its beginning.
For almost 30 years Helene worked for the newspaper &
eventually retired from the Hawaii Newspaper Agency where she held a
number of different jobs primarily in the “Classified” area but also
served as a Trainer & filled in as a secretary, in customer
service & other areas as needed. Today, Helene actively
volunteers with the Hawaii Republican Party, Outdoor Circle, Blood
Bank of Hawaii & the Navy Exchange Customer Service. You’ll recognize Helene by
the beautiful aloha dresses she wears & her sunny smile.
Olive
Lum:
Has been a member of WCC since 1996. Her first job was as a
“temp” filing clerk with Hawaiian Life
Insurance.
She failed as a “temp” because she worked there for 41 years
getting promoted in all different jobs. Olive says she worked in the
accounting department for the most part and when the company merged
with Pacific Guardian Insurance she stayed another 5 years until her
retirement. Olive has
volunteered ever since she’s been a member at WCC. Today, Olive takes Ukulele
lessons at Roy Sakuma’s and plays in the WCC Ukulele class on
Fridays and also participates in Art and Painting classes here at
WCC. Outside of WCC,
Olive spends time with family and pursues her other hobbies of
reading, crocheting, working in the garden and a new found passion…A
Capella.
