  COFFEE HOUR FOR NEW MEMBERS

2nd Tuesday of each month, 10-11 a.m.

WCC will be conducting monthly Coffee Hours for New Members on the 2nd Tuesday of each month.  We’d like to help our new members learn more about their membership benefits, share resources and programs available at WCC, provide a short tour of the facility and highlight our activities.  Coffee and pastries will be served.  We ask new members to register for these monthly events when they become a member or call 923-1802 to sign up for the next coffee gathering.  This is free for all new members!  Aloha and Welcome!

UKULELE 101—Beginning Class w/Suzie

Fridays, 1-3pm.   Aud. $1/$3

 A beginning ukulele class taught by Suzie scheduled each Friday, 1-3pm in the Auditorium. This class is very casual and geared for the beginning or inexperienced player.   

 

ARE YOU PREPARED FOR AN EMERGENCY?

Wednesday, July 18, 10am-noon, Aud., free

Are you prepared in the event there is a disaster?  Do you have a plan?  Emergency kit?  What to do?  Where to go?  Oahu Civil Defense will provide important information on emergency supplies, shelter locations and how to develop an evacuation plan.   Join us on July 18th for this important workshop.  Drawing for free emergency kits will be held at the presentation, must be present to win. 

 This presentation and emergency kits provided by our Seniors on the Go grant received from Friends of Hawaii Charities.

 

WCC CIRCLE ISLAND TOUR

Friday, August 3, 8:15am-3:30pm $15/$35

 Enjoy a full 7-hour circle O’ahu Tour on a luxury air conditioned tour bus.  Stops at historical sites including shopping in famous Haleiwa.  Buffet lunch stop at Kualoa Ranch (no host) $12.50 for members and $29 for guests.  Limited to 40 passengers, book early before it sells out!  Reminder, no refunds once paid. This excursion partially funded by Friends of Hawaii Charities.

 The mission of the Kalihi-Palama Health Center is to provide quality, integrated health and social services to the community and all others in need of health care.  They also help families and individuals enroll in DHS service programs, if appropriate.  Participate in this presentation and learn if you qualify for DHS entitlements.  Register at WCC office for this free presentation.  Free drawing for prizes will be held.  This presentation is co-sponsored in part by a grant from the Friends of Hawaii Charities.

ALL ABOUT DIABETES

Did you know?  Over 20.8 million American adults and children have diabetes?  What’s more, nearly 1/3 of them don’t even know they have diabetes!  It is critically important to maintain a healthy lifestyle in order to prevent kidney failure, loss of limbs, and heart failure.  Learn the basics of prevention, healthy choices, symptoms and coping.  Drawing to be held.

        SCAMS & FRAUD

 According to the National Fraud Information Center Hawaii had the highest number of internet scams in the nation.  Over $3000 is the average loss from fraudulent lotteries and many sweepstakes are scams! 

Join Bank of Hawaii who will help advise and educate us on how to protect against scams and fraudulent claims.  Register at office today, free drawing!  This workshop is sponsored in part with grant funds received from Friends of Hawaii Charities.

 New Beginning and Intermediate English classes will begin 7/31 and end 8/23.  Intermediate class 9:30-11:30 a.m, and Beginners Class 1-3 p.m.  Cost is $90 for 15 classes or $10 per class.  Register at WCC.

       TELEPHONE TREE

                     We received a clever idea by our member in hopes of building a safety                                    and community network.  This new program is to help ensure those of you who live alone will have friends who are aware of your status and whereabouts.  We are organizing a neighborly check telephone tree.  The trees will be in groups of 4-6 people.  Once a day the lead person will call one person to start the tree, that person will then continue the tree by calling their assigned person on their list to confirm they are fine.  Please sign up at the office if you are interested.

 

BEGINNING & ADVANCED SPANISH WITH DORIS LAPISTOL—Tuesdays, 10-11:30 a.m.

                           Join this beginning and advanced Spanish language class each Tuesday,                        10-11:30 a.m. on WCC lanai.  Cost is $1 for members and $3 for non members.  Learn a new language and meet new friends.  Taught by Doris Lapistol.
