THANKSGIVING DINNER - Thursday, November 23, 2006

Hyatt Regency Waikiki Beach (2424 Kalakaua Ave.) ~ 2-4 p.m.

Once again, Waikiki Community Center invites you to begin the holiday season surrounded with friends at the Hyatt Regency Waikiki for Thanksgiving dinner.  This year’s festivities will include games, door prizes and entertainment.  There will be a scrumptious traditional Thanksgiving menu with all the trimmings.  Dinner starts at 2 p.m., free hotel parking.

 Tickets must be purchased in advance, family and friends are welcome.  Deadline to purchase tickets is November 15th.  Call 923-1802 to order by phone with credit card.  Cost is $12 for members and $15 for guests and non members.  Please book by 11/15, limited to 80.  Sorry, no refunds after November 15 

 

BISHOP MUSEUM TOUR - Friday, November 3rd—$12/$15

Meet at entrance of Bishop Museum (1525 Bernice St)at 9:15 a.m. for a tour of Bishop Museum.  View private exhibits not available to the general public, display of na oiwi  (bones), Na Ali’i Hulu: Royal Feathers, planetarium, hula show, fibers of the Pacific, and more!  Sorry, no flowers or leis allowed to preserve the artifacts (bugs and insects!)

 From Waikiki take City Express Bus B or #2 School/Middle Street buses to the Museum.  No host lunch at Museum’s Paina Café, offering deli sandwiches, grilled burgers and snacks ($6-$12).  You may opt to stay longer (on own) after lunch to browse their Hawaiiana gift and book shop or visit more exhibits and shows.  Free parking on site. SOUTH ASIAN HEALTHY FOOD, ART & DANCE - Friday, December 1st 5:30-7:30 p.m.

WCC Auditorium $5/$10

 Mark your calendars & join us for this special international cultural event at WCC on Friday,  December 1st starting at 5:30 p.m. Food, crafts, arts and dances will be showcased, dinner included in ticket price.

 Get your tickets today—limited to the first 30 who register and prepay!  $5 for members/$10 non members.

Partial funding for this event has been subsidized by a generous grant from the Friends of Hawaii Charities.

 

HOLIDAY TABLE DECORATION CLASS - Wednesday, December 6th

Join Ellen Katoda on Wednesday, December 6th, 9:30-11 a.m.  Make your own table decorations and candle centerpiece and get into the holiday spirit.  Cost is $12 for members and $15 for non members and includes all materials.  You are encouraged to bring items to add a personal touch to your decoration.  Register by 12/1 by calling 923 1802 with your payment info.

 HOLIDAY CHRISTMAS LIGHTS & TROLLEY RIDE - December 11 (Friday)

Enjoy the Honolulu City Lights with a stop at Honolulu Hale to view the beautifully and shimmering Christmas trees, lights and holidays decorations.  This once a year trolley ride is only $5 for WCC members and $10 for non-members and will leave WCC at 6:30 pm (meet at WCC by 6pm) and return by 8:30 p.m..  Bring a sweater or jacket in case of inclement/cool weather.  Limited to 34 passengers, register by Friday, Dec. 1st.  We are able to provide this lower fee this year (normally $12/$15) as this event is partially funded by a grant from the Friends of Hawaii Charities with proceeds from the Sony Open.  

 ANNUAL WCC CHRISTMAS SUPPER —scheduled on Sunday, December 24 (Eve) at 2pm at the Hyatt Regency Waikiki Mauka Maloko room (2424 Kalakaua Ave.).  Cost is $12 for members and $15 for non members.  Purchase your tickets early, limited to 100 people—family, guests and friends invited.  Entertainment, games and door prizes.  Dinner includes: Choice of Pork Loin or Roast Turkey with Waldorf Salad, Mashed Potatoes, Stir Fried Vegetables, Candied Yams, Cranberry Relish, Dobash Cake, Rolle, Coffee or Tea.  Hotel parking is complimentary.

Please let WCC staff know if your class schedule will be change for the holidays or if you’ll be on winter break/vacation.  We start working on the newsletter almost 2-1/2 weeks prior to the end of the month.  Stories and articles for the December 2006 issue are due Tuesday, November 14th.  We’d like to provide updated information to our members.  You could also fax a news update to 791-2099 or email to denice@waikikicommunitycenter.org.  Thanks for your help with this matter.

FRIDAY UKULELE CLASS

New session starts 12/15—Previous experience

9-11 a.m., WCC Auditorium

 John Signor will begin a new 10-week Hawaiian Style Ukulele Class beginning Friday, December 16th in WCC Auditorium.  Cost is $30 for WCC members and $50 for non-members when you prepay and register for the full 10-week series.  Individual classes are $4 and $7 for non members.  Register at office today.  Please note, no refunds after payment.  Thank you!

HAWAIIAN QUILTING CLASSES—NEW!

Wednesdays, 10am-noon, WCC Aud. $2/$3

  Experience our newest class—  Hawaiian Quilting which started on   Wednesday, October 11th, 10am-noon   in the Auditorium.  Cost is $2 for    members and $3 for non members.    Materials and/or kits not included, may be purchased from instructor.  Register at WCC .

 Are you interested in new classes such as Pinochle?  Public Speaking?  Storytelling?  Introduction on how to use your camcorder?  Moviemaking?

KUALOA RANCH ` Thursday, November 9th

Journey to the North Shore (Ka’a’awa) side of O’ahu to Kualoa Ranch and visit their aquaculture ponds and ranch.  Kualoa is one of the most historically significant destinations on O’ahu and in ancient times, considered one of the most sacred places on the island.  Bus leaves WCC at 8 a.m., returns by lunch.  Cost is $11 for members and $18 for non members, includes bus fee and admission.  Bring water, sunscreen, shades & wear comfortable shoes.

BENEFITS RESOURCE GROUP

 Jerry Wong, Advisor with Benefits Resource Group will provide the latest information on the 2007 Medicare Advantage Program, Concepts & Alternatives and a Long Term Care (LTC) Alternative.  Hear how you can guard against LTC costs, preserve LTC health, generate a ‘just-in-case’ funds if you need it and tell the difference of what is on the market today and the tax advantages. Refreshments will be provided, join us at this free and informative seminar.  Reserve a seat now.

·          AARP Driver Safety Program, 9am-1pm, Chapel.  $2 for members and $10 for non members.  Sign up @ WCC at least one week prior. November 14 & 16 and December 4 & 6.
