NA MEA MAKAMAE O WAIKIKI A HUGE SUCCESS!

img_1031.png

Waikiki Community Center held it’s 5th Annual Na Mea Makamae o Waikiki (Honoring the Treasures of Waikiki) fund raising dinner on Friday, August 10th at the Hilton Hawaiian Village Beach Resort and Spa.  Over 850+ people attended the gala event to help support the mission of Waikiki Community Center and honor our Kahiau Awardees:  The late Michael Tongg, late Don Ho and Royal Hawaiian Shopping Center/Kamehameha Schools.  The event was made possible through the generous support and leadership of our Event Chair - Noel Trainor, General Manager of the Hilton Hawaiian Village Beach Resort & Spa.  Noel was responsible for soliciting all of our Live Auction and travel auction items,  printing, audio/visual contractors, and many corporate table sales - a wonderful leader and supporter!  He was assisted by Table Sales Chair—Susan Todani, Special Project Director with Kamehameha Schools; Entertainment Chair—Manu Boyd, Cultural Director at Royal Hawaiian Shopping Center; Silent Auction Chair—Sharon Weiner, VP of DFS Hawaii, Leadership Committee members and WCC Board of Directors.

Mahalo to our WCC volunteers, members, board, corporate friends and staff who contributed to our silent auction with beautiful gifts, assisted with packaging our favors, provided beautiful artwork for our note cards, helped assemble and mail out invitations to our guests and assisted at the event. Mahalo nui loa!

Over $168,000 (net) was raised to help children, families and senior adults who utilize the programs and services at Waikiki Community Center.  Our exciting Live Travel Auction (Deluxe hotels and airfare to London, Paris, New York, Beverly Hills; NCL Cruise and The Kahala Hotel) was a new feature added this year—fun, lively and very exciting!  The live, silent auction and SFO trip raised over $45K!  These needed funds will help WCC with on-going programs and day to day operations for our members and preschool students.

Lehua Kalima Heine (Na Leo Pilimehana), Hoku Zuttermeister, Keonilei Fairbanks, Ioane Burns, Ku’uipo Kumukahi, Kealoha Kalama, Arshiel Calatrava, Maka’ala Perry, Jackie Cadinha, Manu Boyd and Robert Cazimero provided the evening’s entertainment and musical tribute to each honoree.  It was truly a magical evening.

Mahalo to everyone who helped with this exciting event!
