Aloha 'Aina
- Recycling Day a Huge Success!
A big mahalo to our elected officials who coordinated a
successful "Aloha 'Aina - Recycling Day" on Saturday, February 25,
2006 at the Ala Wai Yacht Harbor. Tons of recycling materials
were dropped off - batters, tired, engines, plastic containers,
refrigerators, air conditioners, aluminum cans, newspapers, phone
books and even a used motorcycle! It was a successful
day!
Mahalo to Rep. Anne Stevens, Councilmember Charles Djour and
Senator Gordon Trimble's office and staff for organizing this
successful community event. Good job
everyone!
Proceeds from the plastic and metal will be donated to
Waikiki Community Center. What a great way to clean up our
island streets, harbors, canals and environment! Special
thanks to Schnitzer Steel Hawaii Corp. and Rene
Mancho for their support with volunteers, trucking, and
heavy equipment.
Waikiki Community Center would like to send a big mahalo to
our members and neighbors who "recycled" and helped keep our Hawaii
clean. We'd also like to thank Ilikai Renaissance
Hotel for helping with morning refreshments and the
Harbor Pub and Pizza for the delicious sandwiches
for our hard working volunteers and staff!
Mahalo!
