What We Do
Caring for our keiki, kupuna and community as 'ohana.
Keiki: Investment in human potential
Birth to age five is the most rapid period of brain development, setting the foundation for future learning and success. Ensuring quality early learning for all children affects our entire community. Research has shown investing in the early years increases productivity in schools, reduces crime and dependence on social services and improves the quality of our workforce.
Kupuna Senior Program
We empower seniors to live active, meaningful lives where they both contribute to community and receive support. Our programs and services follow best practices established by research to address the whole person – body, mind, heart. Our services both prevent premature decline and meet critical needs.
Community
#strongertogether
We envision a community where all our members thrive. A variety of community mobilization initiatives and one-on-one assistance/group programs allow us to reach some of the more vulnerable, provide growth and service opportunities for those who are active, and impact the community as a whole and beyond.
Thrive by 5 Affordable Preschool Initiative
Due to the rising cost of living in Hawaii, many hard working families earn too much to quality for state assistance, yet still struggle to make ends meet and cover the cost of preschool. To help make quality early education affordable for more families, WCC Started the Thrive by 5 Affordable Preschool Initiative. We are committed to helping ensure these ALICE (Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed) families have access to quality early education. Starting in April 2024, WCC Preschool will reduce tution by approximately 50% for qualified families.
BUILD Emergency Savings
Nearly 2 of 3 working Americans can't withstand a $500 emergency. WCC has seen many of our community members who have fallen into critical siutations from one incident. Many are living paycheck- to-paycheck and are one emergency away from crisis. To help stabilize our community, WCC started the BUILD initiative, which provides $1000 in matched savings over 12 months to ALICE-qualified working individuals.
GENKI BALL PROJECT
WCC supports The Genki Ala Wai Project and their efforts to restore the waters of the Ala Wai Canal. Genki Ala Wai’s mission is to make the Ala Wai Canal fishable and swimmable within seven years through bioremediation technology.
As the Ala Wai is a part of our neighborhood, WCC kupuna, members, and community volunteers hold genki ball making and genki ball toss activities. Contact us to sign up and get more information!
